How are donation payments processed?

This article briefly explains how Be Collective processes donation transactions.

Donations are available only to groups in Australia and New Zealand (not the UK), and only to Be Collective Plus/Pro subscribers. To learn more about Be Collective's subscription plans, please see the Help Centre article linked below:

Our billing partner for donations is Stripe. Used in over 120 countries, Stripe is the payment gateway used by Amazon, Google, Salesforce, Shopify, Uber and more.

What is Stripe, and what does it do? Stripe is a transaction gateway, which routes credit card payments directly to your nominated bank account. Once a Stripe account is set up, it can be linked easily to many online transaction engines, including Be Collective's donations module.

Are fees taken from donations?

To cover the costs of using Stripe through Be Collective as a payment gateway, all donations will be subject to a deduction, as follows:

  • In Australia, 5.75% of the donation amount, plus a flat 0.30c.
  • In New Zealand, 6.9% of the donation amount, plus a flat 0.30c.

For Be Collective Pro groups, this is reduced by 2%, i.e. in Australia a Be Collective Pro group's deduction will be 3.75% plus 0.30c.

Donors can also opt to cover this administration fee in addition to their donation pledge if they prefer. Fees may be higher for donations made using international cards.
