How do I find and join a group to volunteer with?
This article summarises how to find and join a group on Be Collective to start volunteering.
Find a group
Open Search in the left sidebar, then the Groups tab
Type or paste the group name in the search bar, or enter your location and set your search radius using the dropdown on the right
Click a group to open its profile page
Click Join group to open the application form
Step 1: Your details
Review the pre-filled details in Your details
Add any missing items (all fields are mandatory except Occupation, which is optional)
Click Save and continue
Details you add here are saved to your profile for future applications.
Step 2: Group application
Select a Member Type from the dropdown — if in doubt, select Volunteer
Answer any custom questions (compulsory questions are marked with an asterisk)
Click Submit application
Once you have applied to join a group, your application will be reviewed by the group's administrator.
If your application is approved you can then view and apply for all volunteer opportunities the group provides or promotes, including private opportunities they share only with their members.
Please note
Application processes may vary between groups. Some groups may request additional details to ensure you are an appropriate fit for the volunteering opportunities they offer.
FAQs
Do I need to create a group to volunteer?
There is no need to create a group of your own unless you plan to provide volunteer opportunities to other Be Collective users.
Do I need to join a group before I search for volunteering opportunities?
You do not need to join a group to search and apply for public volunteering opportunities. If you apply for an opportunity without first joining the group, your volunteer application will automatically include an application to that group. You will then become a member of the group if your volunteer application is accepted.
Why do I need to provide my gender?
To learn more about why gender is a compulsory field in application forms, please see the Help Centre article linked below:
Why do I need to provide my gender when I join a group?
You do not need to provide a binary gender if you would prefer not to. Simply select Prefer not to say if you don't wish to disclose this information for any reason.
Why do I need to provide emergency contact details?
Emergency contact details are compulsory, as they ensure groups have access to this information in the unlikely event of them needing to contact someone on your behalf.
