What is Be Collective built on?
This article summarises the main technologies behind the Be Collective platform.
Be Collective is primarily built on Node.js, with several services making up the platform, including:
The primary API
A GraphQL service used by the web application
Scheduled and delayed processing (including cron jobs)
A websocket service for in-app messaging
The web application itself
Public traffic is delivered through Fastly, a configurable CDN.
Internal services run in containers on Amazon ECS (Elastic Container Service). Amazon SQS drives delayed and background processing, with other AWS tools used where appropriate.
Application data is stored in a mix of MongoDB, Redis, and Elasticsearch, each used for different workloads (primary data, caching, and search).
User files and static assets are stored in Amazon S3. Fastly provides CDN delivery for public assets, and Imgix serves and transforms images.
The Be Collective web app is built with React.
