Do I need to provide a date of birth to join Be Collective?

Date of birth is optional when signing up to Be Collective. You may still be asked about your age later so we can keep younger volunteers safe.

Age verification after signup

After you sign up, an Age verification modal may ask whether you are under 18 years old.

If you select I am under 18, you are asked How old are you?, then Agree and continue.

Why does Be Collective need this?

Be Collective has protections for younger volunteers. For example, under 13 users need a parent or guardian on Be Collective, and can only see opportunities marked suitable for their age.

See: Can young people (under 13s) volunteer through Be Collective?

If you are under 13, you cannot proceed without parental consent. You will be asked for a parent/guardian email so they can invite you.

Until 18, users may still be limited to youth-accessible opportunities and verified groups.

Users under 18 cannot create or manage groups.

Who can see my date of birth?

If you entered a date of birth at signup, it is not shown to other users by default. Some groups require date of birth on group or opportunity applications; then they can see it after you provide it.
