How do I add skills and experience to my profile?
Adding your experience and skills to your Be Collective profile is a great way to let volunteer managers know what you're best at, which means they can offer you volunteer roles that best match your talents.
Skills can appear on your profile in several ways. Each skill is shown as a coloured tag. Hover a tag on your profile to see why it's there.
How skills appear
| Colour | What it means | How it was added |
|---|---|---|
| Blue | Verified | A group added a qualification to your record that includes this skill |
| Gold | Experienced | Hours were logged for a Be Collective opportunity that lists this skill |
| Grey | Added by you | You chose it on your profile, tagged it on a licence or certification you uploaded, or tagged it when logging past volunteering |
If a skill has more than one source, the tag uses the highest-weighted category: verified, then experienced, then added by you.
For example, a skill you added yourself can still show as gold if you later volunteered on an opportunity that lists it. Hover the tag to see both sources.
Add or remove skills you've added
Your Skills & Experience panel always shows every skill on your profile. To change the ones you added yourself:
Open My dashboard, then the Profile tab
In the Skills & Experience panel, click the pencil icon (top right)
The Skills you've added dialog opens. You can only add or remove skills you added yourself. Skills from volunteering, a group qualification, a licence, or past hours stay on your profile and are not shown in this list.
Select skills to add, or click X next to a skill to remove it
Click Save. Click Cancel or the close icon to discard changes.
The dropdown only includes skills you already added yourself, plus skills that are not already on your profile from another source. Skills that are already on your profile from volunteering or a qualification do not appear as options to add.
If a skill is both one you added yourself and one you gained through volunteering, it can still appear in the dialog. Removing it only clears the “added by you” source. The gold or blue tag will stay on your profile.
Other ways skills are added
- Volunteering on Be Collective — when hours are logged on an opportunity that lists skills, those skills appear in gold.
- Your own licence or certification — if you tag skills when you add a licence, they appear in grey. See How do I add qualifications to my profile?
- Past volunteering — if you tag skills when you add previous volunteering, they appear in grey and are not verified. See Can I add previous volunteering to my social record?
- A group manager — if they add a qualification to your member record and include skills, those skills appear in blue. See How do I add qualifications to a member's profile?
Your updated list of skills and experience will appear on your volunteer profile.
Managers of any groups you're a member of through Be Collective will also be able to see these skills, and can match them to volunteer opportunities they offer.
