How do I vet and approve volunteer applications made by my child (under 13)?

If you're a parent or guardian in a family group, any under 13 users in your family group (e.g. your children) will be able to apply to volunteer opportunities only with your consent.

When the under 13 user submits their application to an opportunity, you will receive an email notification from Be Collective.

Approve or deny from email

  1. Open the email notification from Be Collective

  2. Click Learn more about this opportunity to research the group and decide if the opportunity is suitable for your child

  3. Click Yes to approve the application request, or No to deny it

  • Yes releases the application to the group, where a manager will approve or deny it.

  • No blocks the application. The group will have no visibility of applications denied by parents/guardians.

The group will have no visibility of the application request or its status until you approve it.

View pending requests in Be Collective

  1. Open My dashboard, then the My family group tab
  2. Review pending and completed application requests from children in your family group

All application requests by a child in your family group will trigger an email notification to you as a parent/guardian.

What happens after I approve an application request from a child?

When you (or another parent/guardian in your family group) approve an application request from a child in your family group, the application will be sent to the group hosting the opportunity, where they can view and approve or decline the application based on the child applicant's suitability for the role, as they would with applications from adults.

If the child applicant is not already a member of the group they're applying to volunteer with, a group application will also be sent to the group for approval. If group membership is granted by a group manager, this means they will receive notifications of any future volunteer opportunities shared by the group, if marked as suitable for their age by the group.

Under 13 users cannot be assigned to opportunities by a group manager – they can only join an opportunity by applying themselves, with each application subject to your approval as the parent/guardian.
