How to Set Up Mandatory Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

To help protect your account and volunteer information, MFA is required before you can create or manage a group on Be Collective.

MFA adds an extra layer of security to your login.

If management features are locked

If MFA is not enabled, management actions stay locked. You may see:

  • A tooltip on Manage my groups / Create a group:

“Management features are locked. Enable Multi Factor Authentication in your Settings to continue”

  • Or a full-page message: “MFA required for management”, with a button to Set up MFA in Settings

Once MFA is enabled, you can create and manage groups.

How to enable MFA

  • From your dashboard, open Settings

  • Under Multi-factor authentication, click Activate (or Add authentication method if you already have one method)

  • Choose Mobile Authenticator App (recommended), or set up SMS

If you choose the authenticator app

  • Download an app such as Google Authenticator

  • Scan the QR code on screen

  • Enter the verification code from the app to finish setup

When setup is complete, the method shows as active in Settings.

Logging in with MFA

  1. Enter your email address and password as usual.
  2. Enter the verification code from your authenticator app or SMS (depending on the method you enabled).

This extra step keeps your account secure when managing groups.
