Groups explained
In Be Collective, a group can mean a number of things, such as a non-profit, business partner, VRC, council, or government department.
A group can be:
a non-profit or community group offering volunteer opportunities
a private sector business partnering with non-profit or community groups and endorsing volunteer opportunities for their employees
a Volunteer Resource Centre (VRC) offering advice, networking opportunities and volunteer management support to non-profit and community groups in their local area
a Council wanting to map the community contribution and volunteer landscape across their municipality
a Government department looking to link their programs and initiatives with social outcomes
I'm a volunteer — how do I join a group?
If you are joining Be Collective as an individual seeking volunteer opportunities, you can apply to join any group. Once you have found a group that interests you, you can click Join group and follow the prompts to complete your application.
For more details on how to join a group, see How do I find and join a group to volunteer with?.
Application processes may vary between groups – for instance, some groups may request additional details to ensure you are an appropriate fit for the opportunities they offer.
Once you have applied to join a group, your application will be reviewed by their administrators. If your application is approved you can then view and apply for all volunteer opportunities the group provides or promotes, including private opportunities they share only with their members.
There is no need to create a group of your own, unless you plan to provide volunteer opportunities to other Be Collective users as a non-profit or community group, or promote them as a VRC or business.
For more details on creating groups, see How do I create a group?.
Do I need to join a group before I search for volunteering opportunities?
You do not need to join a group to search and apply for public volunteering opportunities on Be Collective. However, if you apply for a public volunteer opportunity without first joining the group, your volunteer application will automatically include an application to that group. You will then become a member of the group if your volunteer application is accepted.
You will only be able to see opportunities marked as private within a group after you have joined that group.
