How do I activate donations?

Donations are available only to groups in Australia and New Zealand. They are not available for groups in the UK.

Your group needs to be verified by Be Collective before donations can be activated. If you aren't verified, you'll get a pop-up asking you to become verified before continuing.

Activate donations

  1. Open your group management page

  2. Open the Modules link in the navigation bar — this may be located in the More menu on the right

  3. Click Activate under Donations

If you are verified, click Activate. You'll know your account has been activated when the button shows Manage. Clicking Manage takes you to your group's donations module.

Connect Stripe for payments

Donation payments are taken through Stripe. If you have an existing Stripe account you can connect it to Be Collective, or you can create a new Stripe account.

  1. In the donations module, click Connect to Stripe

  2. Review the fees per donation in the pop-up (these may differ depending on your location and whether your group is subscribed to Be Collective Pro)

  3. Click Continue to Stripe

  4. Enter the email you use to log in to your existing Stripe account and follow the prompts, or complete the Stripe account creation process

  5. Click Authorize access to this account to connect your Stripe account to Be Collective

You'll then be taken back to your Be Collective donations page, where you can manage and view donations made to your group and any events hosted by your group.

Donation fees

Are deductions taken from donations before I receive them? Yes — to cover the costs of using Stripe through Be Collective as a payment gateway, all donations will be subject to a deduction of:

  • Australia: 5.75% of the donation amount, plus a flat 0.30c.
  • New Zealand: 6.9% of the donation amount, plus a flat 0.30c.

For Be Collective Pro groups (and above), this is reduced by 2%, i.e. in Australia a Be Collective Pro group's deduction will be 3.75% plus 0.30c.

Donors can also opt to cover this administration fee in addition to their donation pledge if they prefer. Fees may be higher for donations made using international cards.

What information does Stripe need? Stripe will ask for an ACN or ABN in Australia, or an NBN in New Zealand.
