How do I enable team applications on an opportunity?
This article is for host group managers. It shows how to turn on team applications for a shift opportunity so other groups can apply as a team.
Team applications are only available on shift opportunities (not flexible schedules). The opportunity must be published before other groups can submit a team application. Your group’s plan must include the team applications feature.
For an overview of roles and flow, see What is team volunteering?.
Enable team applications
Open your group management page (How do I manage my group?)
Open the Opportunities tab and create a new opportunity, or open an existing shift opportunity
On the Schedule step (or Schedule tab), add the shifts teams can choose from
Open the Application step (wizard) or the Application section under opportunity Details
Turn on Allow team applications?
Configure the options below, then publish the opportunity if it is not already published
When the toggle is on, approved members of other groups that have endorsed this opportunity can use Apply as a team on the opportunity page.
Team size limits
Under Team size, set how many people a team can request on a shift:
- Minimum — leave blank to use 2
- Maximum — optional cap; leave blank for no maximum (up to open positions on the shift)
Charge teams? (optional)
If your group has Stripe Connect activated, you can turn on Charge teams? to invoice corporate or applicant groups for team volunteering.
When enabled, configure:
- Payment due (days) — default days until the invoice is due (for example, 14)
- Pricing — Per person (multiplied by approved positions) or Per team (flat fee)
- Amount — what your organisation receives; the invoice total includes the Be Collective platform fee
- Invoice memo (optional) — extra text on the Stripe invoice
Payment is tracked separately. It does not block reservations, share links, or member approval. An overdue invoice does not automatically release reserved positions.
Reservation expiry
Under Reserve positions until on the Schedule step (or Schedule tab), choose how many days before each shift starts unused reserved places are released. This frees capacity if the team does not fill every reserved position in time.
Shifts that are already inside this window cannot be reserved by teams.
After you publish
- Approved members of endorsing groups can open the opportunity and click Apply as a team
- You (or a coordinator) review requests under Volunteers → Team applications — see How do I review and approve team applications?
If you expect team applications from a corporate or partner group, make sure that group has endorsed the opportunity first — see How do I request an endorsement from another group for an opportunity?.
Tips
- Team applications cannot be enabled on flexible (non-shift) opportunities.
- If Allow team applications? is locked or shows This feature is coming soon, your plan does not include team applications yet.
- Teams can only apply from groups that have endorsed the opportunity — not from every group on Be Collective.
- You cannot apply as a team to your own group’s opportunity — only members of other volunteering groups can submit a team application.
